Golf Behind Bars: A Second Chance on the Fairway
Deep inside Washington’s minimum-security Cedar Creek Corrections Center, superintendent Tim Thrasher launched the Cedar Creek Golf Club, turning Wednesday nights into a makeshift driving range where 12 inmates borrow clubs, knock around foam balls and swap stories about their best—and worst—shots. Beyond the game’s swings and putts, the program instills patience, discipline and respect, giving prisoners a taste of normalcy and new purpose.
In this GOLF Magazine Original, we follow Nico, Tejuan and Rodron as they discover more than just the mechanics of golf. Their journey culminates in a memorable first trip outside prison walls to tee off at The Home Course, proving that the greatest yardage gained isn’t measured in feet, but in second chances.
